Frequently asked
I don't hear any sounds after installing.
MecaKey needs Accessibility permission to know when you've pressed a key. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, enable MecaKey, then quit and relaunch the app. If still silent, click the menu-bar icon and confirm sounds are toggled on, then check your output volume.
How do I install it?
Buy MecaKey on the Mac App Store. macOS will install it automatically and you'll find it in your /Applications folder. Launch it once and grant Accessibility permission when prompted.
Does MecaKey log my keystrokes?
No. MecaKey reads only key codes (which physical key was pressed), never characters or text content. Nothing leaves your Mac. See the full privacy policy.
I'm on a new Mac. Do I have to pay again?
No. Sign into the same Apple ID, install MecaKey from the Mac App Store — your purchase carries over automatically.
I can't find the app window — only the menu bar.
That's by design. Click the keyboard icon in the menu bar to open the popover, then choose Open Typing Test for the full window experience.
How do I change the global hotkey?
Click the menu-bar icon → Hotkey → press the key combo you want. Hit Clear to disable.
Can I import my own switch sounds?
Yes. Open the menu-bar popover → Custom Profiles → import a folder of .wav or .aiff files. MecaKey distributes them across keys automatically.
What macOS versions are supported?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) and later, on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
How do I request a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and pick MecaKey from your purchase history.
How do I uninstall completely?
Drag MecaKey from /Applications to the Trash, then remove ~/Library/Containers/com.mecakey.app/ to clear settings and stats.
